As a future educator, I really need to focus on creating lessons that will appeal to all of my students' various learning styles in order to make sure that each student is learning as much as they possibly can. I created lessons that incorporated discussions, technology, group work, individual work, etc. While developing this unit plan, I also learned the importance of creating diverse lessons in order to adhere to all of my students' various learning needs. So, for this unit plan that I created on the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, I really tried to create lessons that would speak to my students. As a future educator, I need to make sure that all of my lessons help students make meaning and relevance throughout their lives because otherwise, students will probably fail to see the significant connections between literature and themselves. A freshman at Merryweather High, age fourteen, with muddy brown hair, brown eyes, chapped lips and hated by her new school. But not just any teenager, into Melinda Sordino’s mind. Creating this unit plan really taught me about the importance of making lessons both informative and relevant. The novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is one that moves people and takes people on an adventure into the mind of a teenager. This Unit plan required a great deal of time and effort, but I have to admit that it really was a joy working on it. I created this unit plan for my Teaching Communications class during my Fall semester, of Senior year at Bloomsburg University.
